The Sway Machinery: The Sway Machinery EP
The debut EP by New York's favored sons serves up a strong brew of lo-fi analog soul, West African pop music, and post-punk.
In 2006, Sway Machinery frontman Jeremiah Lockwood teamed up with Israeli percussionist (and Balkan Beat Box MC) Tomer Tzur, plus tenor saxophonist Stuart Bogie and trumpeter Jordan McLean of Antibalas, Arcade Fire touring member Colin Stetson, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs drummer Brian Chase. Lockwood based both his lyrics and melodies on Jewish High Holidays prayers and 20th century Cantorial music, while the music pulled from each of the member's personal experiences and styles. In 2008, the Sway Machinery released their debut self-titled EP and debuted live at a multimedia performance for Rosh Hashanah in New York City.
